Wizard of Oz Day: The Full Write-Up

On Saturday 24th September, 18 members of PDDCS jumped on a train heading for our capital city London! We even went past Arsenal's new football stadium.

We arrived into Kings Cross Station at midday and then went on the underground to Oxford Circus where we walked down the famous Oxford Street admiring all the huge shops whilst looking for somewhere to eat. We found a MacDonalds where we all individually ordered our food and had to stand to eat it! It was so busy! After filling our bellies we went back into the overcrowded Oxford Street and wandered back towards the theatre.

The London Palladium was amazing! It was huge and decorative. The building dates back to the 19th century! We queued and handed in our tickets before entering the stands where we found our seats. They were perfect! Best seats in town! There were also lots of other Deaf people there from around the country.

The curtains came up and the signer began signing. The show had started! Wow! It was amazing, the scenery, the dancing, the acting and of course the BSL interpreter was outstanding. There was even a real dog as Toto. We had snow fall on us, a witch sweep above our heads and a flying monkey suspended from the ceiling. There was no opportunity to be bored.

Then the interval came and we bought ice cream and chatted away to each other about how fantastic it was so far. Then again, the curtain rose and the show began. We followed the yellow brick road to see the Wizard of Oz and it felt like we were really there. By the time Dorothy woke up at home we were all in awe .. it was spectacular.

Leaving the theatre by the back stage exit we met the interpreter and got a signed picture of Dorothy. We then headed back to the station to get our train home - we were lucky to just catch one before it left.

All the way home we chatted about how amazing the day had been and the wonderful Wizard of Oz!
Everyone throughly enjoyed it and it will definitely be worth doing again.

Don't just believe me see below what some of the people that came along said too!

It was such an incredible day - we both loved it. Thank you so much. Jill and Calum xx
Yesterday was fantastic! Made Kaci and I feel very welcome. A day we will never forget! x Kaci and Mum
I loved every moment, the train journey was very busy but at the start you got to know everyone. London was as busy as ever, went to McDonalds for lunch. The show was amazing, I loved every second of it. The train home was a rush, everyone was in different carriages. i got a bit programme and signed pictures of Dorothy and kept some fake snow that fell from the ceiling during the show. Amazing experience, would love to do it again. I love the theatre - thanks Nic for organising this special day for a great group of friends. From Hollie!
I absolutely loved the fake snow. When it was the end, we played lots of games and I collected the snow and threw it at Tara - it was really funny! When I was in my seat at the start, I was talking to Katie and I told her i was excited because the theatre looked old fashioned. William
