Unreported World article on deafness in Uganda

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/unreported-world/on-demand
On Friday night Unreported World broadcast an article on SignHealth Interational's work with Deaf children in Uganda. There is stigma and cultural taboo surrounding deafness in Uganda, meaning Deaf people there are among the most isolated and disadvantaged groups in the developing world. This programme gives an insight into the lives of Deaf children that is common in many developing countries.

There are often no opportunities to learn sign language, meaning deaf children and adults exist in a world of silence with no communication mode to express themselves with anyone. The programme shows the impact of the first sign language lesson in a village and the life changing effects of a school for the deaf on the lives of Deaf children.

The programme is showing on 4oD until mid December http://www.channel4.com/programmes/unreported-world/on-demand
