NDCS seeking new Youth Advisory Board members

NDCS will be recruiting for their next Young People’s Advisory Board.

Applications are open from Monday 2nd December – Friday 24th January.

Check the NDCS Buzz website to download applications forms on Monday 2nd December.

You can also email them on cyp@ndcs.org.uk with "Join the YAB" in your message and they will make sure they email you an application form as soon as they are available.

 'What is the Buzz?' - The Buzz is a website just for young deaf people aged 12 - 18.

NDCS Who am I? Deaf teen and his family's stories

The NDCS Who am I project was a three-year project in Scotland. The aim was to support deaf young people, their parents and siblings through the testing and rewarding time of being a teenager. For parents of a deaf teenager there can be additional challenges. At a time when young people are finding their place in the world, coming to terms with being deaf can be a difficult process. This project was seen as the first of its kind in that it focused on deaf teenagers, offering advice direct from the peer group. Deaf young people wrote about who they are, about their lives and about their hopes and dreams.

NDCS Young People's Advisory Board member opportunity

National Deaf Children’s Society launch their 2nd Young People’s Advisory Board (YAB) this week!

The NDCS Young People’s Advisory Board was set up in 2011 to directly shape and guide the services that NDCS delivers. It offers an exciting opportunity for young people to meet other deaf young people, learn new skills and make a difference. Interested in becoming a member?

Key Information 

The Board will be made up of 15 young people from across the UK

Young people must be aged between 12-18 in July 2012

The Board will meet at four residential weekends between July 2012 and January 2014

To apply, young people need to fill in an application form and send this back to us by Sunday 27th May. If they are successful at the application stage then they will be invited for an informal interview in early-mid June (interviews will take place in different locations around the country –dates and venues TBC)

The first residential will be on Saturday 21st – Sunday 22nd July 2012 – young people must be available on these dates

All travel expenses, food and communication requirements will be met by NDCS

A member of the outgoing Board says “Before I joined the group, I thought we would have a lot of similar issues. I was quite surprised just how different young people’s experiences are...e.g. access to support, education and services. But we all had the same aim: to try to improve things no matter where you live through raising deaf awareness and campaigning.”
