UScreen Awards Event 15th December 2013

The date for the UScreen Awards Event 15th December 2013 has been confirmed. On Sunday 15th December, at Pinewood Studios, UScreen will announce the winner and 2 runner ups for each catagory as well as the one film which will be the overall winner of the uSpark Awards.

The students at Jack Hunt School sumbitted 4 clips, 3 of which were created by PDDCS members.

PDDCS first youth film: A deafeeeee's dream

Last October PDDCS members enjoyed an inspirational evening at the Deaf  Role Model night with film makers; Ted Evans and Charlie Swinbourne. This was followed up with acting workshops through November and January with deaf actor, Jacob Casselden. Throughout February youth members, aged 10-22, from the PDDCS independently planned, acted and edited their film 'A Deafeeeee's Dream' on a zero budget. Although it was not successful for shortlisting for the Youth DeafFest, it is still a fantastic effort and evidence of what PDDCS young people can do. Well done!!

This is the winning entry for Young Deaffest this year by William Horsefeild. It's a fantastic short story and shows the high level of imagination and creativity William has. Well done to him from all at PDDCS and hopefully we'll be there next year!

Deaf fest film submission calls

Deaffest is welcoming submissions for their 2013 festival. They have also highlighted a few other deaf film festivals who are currently calling for submissions of films:

Toronto International Deaf Film & Arts Festival
9 – 12 May 2013
Deadline for submissions: Monday 31 December 2012

Australia Deaf Short Film Festival
26 January 2013
(films must be less than 8 minutes long)
Deadline for submissions: Thursday 3 January 2013

 Deaffest!

 The deadline for competition films is 1 March 2013.

 Non-competition films can be submitted until 11 March 2013.

The story of a Deaf Afghan refugee

This drama, made in the style of a documentary, tells the story of a Deaf Afghan refugee who, aided by a network of friends and refugee charity, fights for his right to stay in the UK. Director Rinkoo Barpaga creates a simple story that is reality for many individuals.

New Deaf Film Is Food For Thought

The End is an excellent film funded by the BSLBT (British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust) about what could happen if a cure had been found for deafness in the future.

The film, which is filmed like a documentary, charts the progress of four deaf children through their lives as they make decisions about what to do about this new treatment. It contains some emotional content and shows people who are angry when they feel their deaf culture is being threatened.
