PDDCS Poetry: Ghost murder

Husnayn, a keen PDDCS footballer, has turned his hand to poetry after being inspired by the poetic work of a fellow PDDCS member. This is his first ever attempt of writing a poem.
Well done  Husnayn. It certainly has a chilling effect.

Ghost murder

The 4 boys went to ghost house
Knock in 4 times
Door open creak
3 boys scared but one boy brave

The 4 boys went in ghost house
Whispering in ghost man
They run but door shut
4 boys turn around and see evil phantom

The 4 boys screamed “argh”
4 boys try escape from ghost house
The cruel white spook killed 4 boys
Blood on the floor

Boo!

Our Romeo Poet Performs live

Imran writes his own poems which have inspired others and now he performs.

Last night, at the Jack Hunt School's Poetry Evening, Imran stood on stage and read his poem to a large audience of students, staff, parents and members from the local community. The flopping mic and his massive bundle of pre-stage nerves did not deter him from presenting a wonderful performance.

 What a star!!!

Poetry war - the first reply

Well a few weeks back Andy submitted his second poem and invited some competition for this poetry war. The first reply has been received...

Jack Hunt

I left Jack Hunt in 1992
And brings memories with me
20 or so years later, I came back to Jack Hunt to work
Everyday I walked to work I'll smiled
The memories are around Jack Hunt School
Which is beautiful!
Some teachers are still around after all those years !!
Jack Hunt have change alot since I left
Thinking how lucky the deaf students are now
They all have those lessons and learn
With all those lovely Ladies and two gentlemen TAs
And a wonderful 'deaf Team' Leader who work hard to get things organised
I wish in 1987 that Jack Hunt School would give me the chance
the lessons that I wanted to attend
And the TAs when I do my exams
I was all alone in a quiet sport hall
Wasn't allowed to have TA sit next to me
I just want to understands the questions
I believe I have better results
I'm glad Jack Hunt School have the chance to give them the lessons that I wanted in the past
I loved geography and keen to learn history
The students smiled when they receive the postcards, they know they done well in lessons
They bright, funny, cheeky and a tease
Most of all, they all good students and do well in many years to come
If I wasn't in Jack Hunt school now I wouldn't have wrote poems !!!!!
Jack Hunt a great mainstream school

Poetry - Andy's Answer!

Are you sitting comfortably,
For another instalment of poetry?
I found myself with fifteen free
which I'm using to write expressively

See I gotta win this poetry war
I gotta try and settle the score
Zaimah's sonnet knocked off my socks
Now its my turn to write something that rocks

I could write about the wind and rain
But I think that would be a little mundane
I could write about a walk in the park.
A lark, a shark or a question mark.

I could write about the beautiful scene
At sunset when I was seventeen
Or the time I ran in the pouring rain
Soaked to the skin and never again

I could tell you all about what it was like
When I crashed my car into a dyke
Or explain my feelings of joy in this rhyme
Of when I saw my son for the very first time

So many things a poem can express
A poem can bring out your very, very best
So Zamiah (or your friends) I await your poetic reply
But until then, enjoy your holidays ... and goodbye!

Your turn!

Lastest poetry submission

The lastest poetry submission:

My boyfriend eyes don’t have a sparkle in
His lips look like a sugary doughnut
His nose as big as the tallest mountain
His short brown hair feel like a baby but
EHis  skin is tanned just like the Geordie shore
His cheeks look like a petal of a rose
He smells like a bar of chocolate for
He wears some lynx, I do love it, he knows
I can listen to him sing all day long
His walk so light he can hardly be heard
I am so in love I cannot be wrong
Even though he can be such a big nerd
I love he deeply in to my big heart

Zaimah's 'Sonnet'

Oh what
Beautiful eyes
You have
That I fall
In love with

Your smell
Is really
Gorgeous
And I wish
I could be
With you.

You're my
Love and
If you
Ever leave
Me I would
Miss your
Best food
That you
Ever cooked
And your
Kiss.

When I
Met you
Your face
Were like
A red rose
That were
Dark maroon.

Good bye
My love.

Poem: Thanks To the Webshop Taskforce!

Thanks to the Webshop Taskforce!

I went to Jack Hunt School Today
Because 'thank you' is what I wanted to say
For all your help with our internet shop
You kids from Jack Hunt are the cream of the crop

All sitting happy round the meeting room table
You bunch of kids are willing and able
to check out the stuff we have on our site
and put them in the places that you thought were right

So I popped along on Wednesday to see my new mates
and give you all some certificates
to say thanks for your help - you lot are the best
Action on hearing loss consider ourselves blessed

So here's to Ayesha, Javaria - thank you!
And Naila, Fatima and Marcela - you too!
Dont forget Nicoleta and Zaimah of course
You make a fantastic webshop taskforce!

From Andy!

Deaf Poem: Some girl I am!

 Some girl I am!
A girl, who was in a mother’s womb for nine months,
A girl, who was cute, innocent and lively,
A girl, who was diagnosed with profound severe hearing loss,
A girl, who practised her speech therapy,
Some girl I am!

A girl, who was left in silent,
A girl, who wears hearing aids,
A girl, who moves her hands in the air,
A girl, who wonders what the sound will be like,
Some girl I am!

A girl, who has family to support her through difficult times,
A girl, who cherished her moments with sounds on,
A girl, whose friends’ thinks how to communicate with her,
A girl, who desire to raise deaf awareness around the world,
Some girl I am!

A girl, who imagine that will anyone accept her,
A girl, who wants to achieve her GCSEs, A-levels, goes university and gets a job,
A girl, who show people how to smile,
A girl, who wants things to be easier for her,
Some girl I am!

A girl, who has dreams and wishes to be fulfil,
A girl, who admire happiness,
A girl, who rapidly catches opportunity that comes throughout her life,
A girl, who doesn’t think about herself but others,
Some girl I am!

A girl, who wishes to ease her parents and brothers’ worries,
A girl, who is full of life,
A girl, who relish whether the future of her husband, will accept her,
A girl, who switch all the sounds off for peace,
Some girl I am!

'Life and Deaf' Collective Poetry Showcase

Well done to the PDDCS members who had extracts of their poetry, written 3 years ago, showcased in an event at the SouthBank Centre on 29th March 2012. A short film was created based on a 'collective poem' made up of lines from over 50 poems of the Life & Deaf website. Other creative work based on the ‘collective poem’, including an audio poem (interpreted in British Sign Language) and a visual/sign performance by deaf students were are also presented. There were performances by the acclaimed professional poets Richard Carter, John Agard and Grace Nichols.
Started in 2006 the Life & Deaf projects use poetry and the arts to help young deaf people explore their identities and develop communication skills and emotional literacy. Their overall aim is to improve the mental health of future generations of deaf people as well as raise deaf awareness within families, schools and the wider community.

The quality of poetry created by the young people is superb. Check them out!!!

Life and Deaf continue to welcome any new poetry submissions  (with parental consent).

There will be a Life & Deaf exhibition of poetry and photography in the Greenwich Picturehouse cinema for all of April 2012. The exhibition is in the bar area on the first floor and in the downstairs space near screen 5.

The poetic musing of our deaf Romeo

Imran Mahmood is a very friendly young teenager with the typical language delays associated with bilateral severe to profound hearing loss. Imran often underestimates his own ability with regards to his understanding of the English language. Last weekend, after completing his homework, Imran was inspired to write the poem below.  I feel this writing encapsulates a beauty that generates a huge heart warming smile. Well done Imran!!!

Untitled

Chug Chug Choo Choo,
As a train arrive on a platform 19
As sitting on the bench mysterious girl appear by my side
Her hair is like a wind was upon me
Smell of dove, her cheek was like a strawberry clear

Her pretty looks surround you like flower bloom
Her voice was all passible lyrical way to come and approach you
Her eye was full of ocean a sun set arrive,
can be brown beauty just like mine

Her face is mirror shine like looking glass
Her smell was of Elizabeth Taylor perfume last

I ask mysterious girl ‘are you thirsty?’
She said ‘’yeah’’
I ask her ‘’what your name?’’
I go fetch some tea for her but the mysterious girl disappear.

Deaf Teenage Poetry Part 2

My Profound Life

I have been left in a silent world where quiet is profound.
Listen, not with your ears but your eyes.
I watch my friend’s hands make pictures in the air.
I wonder about the world of sound.
I fall asleep under the lights surrounded by men in green gowns.
More silence during the wait, the long wait, before the switch on.
Excited and nervous as it comes closer to the time.
Forever and ever electricity in my head going round and round.
Buzz, am I on a new world full of sound,
where I can use my ears instead of my eyes,
make pictures in the air with my mouth instead of my hands?
Brain awash with noise that becomes sound of voices and birds chirping,
Although happy as I can now hear better and now know that it will improve.
Communicating and getting on with people better,
being a loud, confident person instead of a shy, quiet one.
Proud to be me.
