Fatima's story: 'About Me'

Hello
My name is Fatima and I am 13 years old.  I was born in England and I was born deaf.
When I was about 7 months old my mum didn’t know I was deaf.  My mum tried to talk to me without looking but I didn’t turn around to face my mum because I can’t hear anything.  After that my mum took me to doctor.  The doctor said I have to go to Cambridge hospital.
Then we went to Cambridge to see the doctor and nurses.  The doctor said before he met a new girl named Tara and she was 5 years old.  Tara was born deaf as well. My mum was so shocked because she didn’t know that Tara was deaf.  She was so pleased and Tara’s mum went to my house because my mum wanted to learn about implants. Then my mum and dad decide want me to have an operation.  After that I was about 6 years old I can hear really well without looking.
My parent took me to nursery.  I have met few hearing people.  There were lots of toys to help me hear.  I was happy with new teaching assistant.
When I was about 6 years old I started in primary school.  I went to Middleton primary school.  I have met 15 deaf students.  I was so pleased to meet them but when I was young I haven’t met deaf people.  My mum decides that she was happy that I can go to this school.
Then when I was in year 5 I had some hearing friends and I could help them learn how to sign using BSL.  Then a year later my friends left school but I had to start year 6 again because I needed to do more work and understand more.
When I was 12 year old I started secondary school called Jack Hunt School. I have met about 17 deaf students who use BSL (Britain sign language).  I think the lessons are boring  but I have to practise lots because in future when I am year 9,10,11,12,13 there will be exam without help, that’s why I am practising now.  When the lessons finished I always talk too much.
I have been practising for my BSL 101 exam. I was so worried about test. Finally I passed YEAH!
Also I am good at Art homework and I have a level 5c. I will do this in GCSE.

Examples of art work to follow shortly

The poetic musing of our deaf Romeo

Imran Mahmood is a very friendly young teenager with the typical language delays associated with bilateral severe to profound hearing loss. Imran often underestimates his own ability with regards to his understanding of the English language. Last weekend, after completing his homework, Imran was inspired to write the poem below.  I feel this writing encapsulates a beauty that generates a huge heart warming smile. Well done Imran!!!

Untitled

Chug Chug Choo Choo,
As a train arrive on a platform 19
As sitting on the bench mysterious girl appear by my side
Her hair is like a wind was upon me
Smell of dove, her cheek was like a strawberry clear

Her pretty looks surround you like flower bloom
Her voice was all passible lyrical way to come and approach you
Her eye was full of ocean a sun set arrive,
can be brown beauty just like mine

Her face is mirror shine like looking glass
Her smell was of Elizabeth Taylor perfume last

I ask mysterious girl ‘are you thirsty?’
She said ‘’yeah’’
I ask her ‘’what your name?’’
I go fetch some tea for her but the mysterious girl disappear.
