Books beyond words

Royal College of Psychiatrists has produced a series of picture books (Books beyond words) to enable discussion about difficult topics easier for people with learning and/or communication difficulties.

The stories are told through colour pictures that include mime and body language, to communicate simple, explicit messages. These help 'readers' to cope with emotions and events such as going to the doctor, bereavement, sexual abuse and depression.
Supporting text and guidelines are also provided for carers, supporters and professionals.

Some books from the Books Beyond Words series are out of print, however, some of the titles are available as an 'online version' so you can look at all the pictures free-of-charge.
