'CONFESSIONS' is a commission from the not-for-profit British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust (BSLBT) which will be transmitted on Film Four, the Community Channel and entered into International film festivals.
This is an ambitious period piece written and directed by upcoming deaf director Julian Peedle-Calloo. The film will be shot in full period costume in St. GIles Church Church, Camberwell and some beautiful pre-Victorian function rooms in Bank, London. The shoot dates are between April 29th and May 3rd.
This story is set in wake of the Milan Conference, which attempted to force Oralism onto the deaf community. Deaf marriage and signing in schools was widely criticised by public figures such as Alexander Graham Bell. The story is of a young deaf couple who decide to marry at Reverend Smith's Church where Alexander is also due to give a lecture on oralism on that very day.
