  1. I really like the way the NDCS are promoting all forms of communication now - not just clear speeach/liprading etc - in a really fun and appealing way. Although my son uses sign language, as I have a (much milder) hearing impairment myself I can also relate to videos about lip-reading.

I doesn't seem that long ago when a teacher in a primary school said to me of another, older deaf child; 'Oh - he is so good at lip reading he understands you even if you turn away from him..'

I hope this campaign gets the publicity it deserves :)

  2. Did anyone else see the piece on the importance of communication that was filmed at the Jack Hunt School - it was on Look East a couple of weeks back? It was really good - and it seems to have stayed in a lot of people's minds as well. My son has recently transferred to the school and when I have started telling friends about the school they have stopped me and said, 'Oh! That was the school we saw on Look East the other day!' Actually, one even thought it was a Deaf school!

My mother, who is deaf, saw it and remarked - 'Oh - if only it had been like that when I was young.'

    How times have changed...

  3. The NDCS have worked co-operatively with Jack Hunt School, involving the pupils with various campaigns. This most recent one has a fresh feel to it and the pupils have felt extremely involved in it and have been able to relay the simple messages learned in various other situtations.
Well done NDCS and Jack Hunt School.
