Football team return to Peterborough with much to celebrate

The first team ever to represent Peterborough's deaf children have returned home from their first competitive action with much to be happy about.

The under 12's team, which only began training five weeks ago as part of the city's first ever deaf friendly football coaching, played in the NDCS (National Deaf Children's Society) Football Tournament in Reading and finished a respectable 4th out of seven teams.

Peterborough beat teams coached by professional clubs such as Cardiff and Brentford and were unlucky not to have finished higher. The eventual winners from London, could only hold Peterborough to a draw. There was much to be pleased about and this tournament will give the players confidence as they continue to train and look forward to more friendly matches this year. Thanks to Hampton Football Club for their support, Jack Hunt School for their generosity in providing the transport and training facilities and to BGL for the excellent kits they provided quickly so the boys looked the part. Thanks also go to Rob, Katy, Tash, Jade and Qadeer who make up our coaching team and to Teresa Quail for her major role in organising the event and deaf friendly football coaching in general. Finally, thanks to Jake the goalkeeper who helped us out and was outstanding.
