A fun way to learn first aid

St John Ambulance has launched its first online game, Rescue Run, to help introduce people to life saving first aid.

If you wish to go straight to playing the game click this link: https://rescuerun.sja.org.uk/

To learn about the game itself read the information below
The game sees the main character, Ron, race against the clock to meet friends at the cinema on time, while gaining points by using basic first aid skills to help people along the way. Venturing down streets such as Accident Avenue and Calamity Close, Ron encounters challenging emergencies which he must deal with to win points. Each casualty suffers from an injury or illness where basic first aid could have given them a chance to live.

The game focuses on five key ways to save a life; including dealing with choking, severe bleeding, chest pains, unconscious and not breathing (needing cardiopulmonary resuscitation; CPR) and unconscious but breathing (the recovery position).
St John Ambulance hopes the game will give people the opportunity to pick up some basic awareness of first aid so that in a real life emergency they could be the difference between life and death.
Sue Killen, CEO, St John Ambulance said:Up to 150,000 people die needlessly each year in instances where first aid could have given them a chance to live.
‘As the leading first aid charity, we’recommitted to helping people learn first aid andRescue Run is a fun and entertaining way to do this. Not only are you able to show off your gaming prowess but you can also learn how to save a life. There aren’t many games that can do that.’
Give it a go...see if you will arrive at the cinema in time or be caught on Accident Avenue forever?
